Itinerary for Customized faculty-led programs

Understand Iceland specializes in customised faculty-led study abroad programs for colleges and universities from North America who want to explore Iceland’s dynamic nature and history.

Day 1

An example of a day in a Faculty Led Program - The students will learn about renewable energy - hydro power and geothermal power - meet with leading experts in the field - visit power plants and interactive exhibitions to deepen their knowledge - outdoor activites such as hiking through a landscape with waterfalls, geothermal area, geysirs or visiting a natural hot pool.

Day 2

An example of a day in a Faculty Led Program - The students will meet with local farmers and greenhouse owners and learn about local food production. Learn about domestic animals, governmental rules and regulations regarding agriculture and food production - meet with the Icelandic horse and learn about sheep farming and the uniqueness of the icelandic wool.

Day 3

An example of a day in a Faculty Led Program - The students will learn about geology and glaciology - meet with leading experts in the field and hike through magnificent landscapes and gain insight of the impact of climate change on glaciers in Iceland.

Day 4

An example of a day in a Faculty Led Program - The students will learn about land degredation, biodiversity, afforestation and soil conservation. They will gain hands on experience by participating in research, planting trees, visiting an eco village and helping with bio dynamic farming.

Day 5

An example of a day in a Faculty Led Program - The students will gain a holistic view on sustainability with leading experts who will bring a holistic view to sustainability, climate change and the circular economy in our day to day lives. The students will learn what are companies and individuals doing to lower their carbon footprint. They will evaluate why anyone should think sustainably and what it means. The students will evaluate their own consumption and learn what companies are doing regarding sustainability and how good they are doing.
