Come to Iceland on a 5 days/4 nights journey and learn about the rich Icelandic tradition of knitting. On this 5 day journey you will experience first hand the Icelandic knitting tradtion, the uniqueness of the Icelandic wool, the way the wool is prepared, spun and hand dyed with natural Icelandic herbs. First and foremost you will experience the joy of knitting in a magnificent landscape, with unique experiences at every step. You will travel in a small group around the Golden Circle and the Woollen Circle in South Iceland. COST: 1590* USD * Due to the high cost of Iceland tourism ad the volatility of the Krona (Iceland’s currency) the final cost will depend on the number of travellers and exchange rate at the time of the final payment and will not exceed an additional $350. INCLUDED: The cost includes all lodging, based on double occupancy, all meals, all group land transfers with motor coach, to and from Reykjavík, a local guide, all group activities (as listed above),
- NOT INCLUDED: Roundtrip airfare, transport to and from airport, extra activities/sites, extra purchases (such as souvenirs, alcoholic beverages, snacks and lodging sundries), travel insurance.
- PLEASE NOTE that the northern lights migth not be visible during the trip. Northern light exposure depends on the solar wind and solar activity cycle, and of course on cloud cover. On an overcast night the lights will not be visible. The lights are most active in Sept-Oct and in March-April so there is a good chance to see them. During the trip your local guide will keep a close eye on the auroa borealis forecast and scout for the lights whenever they migth be visible.

Day 1
Pickup in Reykjavík - Meet your guide and fellow knitter Herdís Friðriksdóttir. Start with a lunch in a restaurant overviewing Reykjavík followed with a short guided tour around downtown Reykjavík where the group will stop in the cheapest woolstore in Iceland. Stock up on wool, needles and recipies. The group will head out of town and settle in a beautiful local guesthouse overlooking mountains and volcanos. Enjoy a home cooked dinner followed with a walk around the nearby area where you will place ryebread dough inside a hotspring to cook for the next 24 hours. Guests can snuggle in the cozy living room by the fire with a good cup of hot chocolate or a glass of wine and knitting needles.
Day 2
After breakfast the group wil tour the Golden Circle, but with a knitting twist! Explore Geysir hotspring area and Gullfoss waterfall followed with a lunch inside a greenhouse at Friðheimar tomato farm. Enjoy a tomato soup with freshly baked bread and basil. Visit the local artshop at a local eco village where the residents make hand made art from recyceled material. In the afternoon meet a local sheep farmer who designs and knits her own wool wear. Visit her sheep stables and learn about small scale sheepfarming. Home made dinner at the house followed with a meeting with some local women and fellow knitters.
Day 3
In the morning the group will visit "The Woolen circle" in South Iceland and meet with women who are committed to producing quality products from the Icelandic wool. The group will visit Hulda at Uppspuni, a family run mini-mill and learn about the uniqueness of the Icelandic wool. They will learn how the wool is prepared for spinning right off the sheep. After a lunch in a local restaurant the group will stop in Þingborg woolshop. There will be a chance to shop for unique unspun Icelandic wool, yarn, and handmade specialist knitting products. Home made dinner at the house followed with time to knit in the evening.
Day 4
After breakfast the group will head to South Iceland where they will have a workshop with Guðrún Bjarnadóttir at Hespa studio. She will teach how to hand dye Icelandic wool with plants, according to the old Icelandic traditions. The group will get a hands on experience in dying the wool themselves. The group will break for lunch in a local restaurant before continuing the workshop. In the afternoon the group will visit a local hotspring lagoon for a relaxing soak. In the evening the group will have a nice farewell dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 5
After breakfast the group will pack up and leave the guesthouse. The group will have a scenic drive to Reykjavík and make stops depending on weather and local opportunities. Expected arrival to Reykjavík 1 pm.
